Volleyball beats Huston-Tillotson 3-0

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team grabbed control of the match early and never looked back as the Cru rolled to a three-set victory over Huston-Tillotson University Tuesday night in Belton. The Cru won 25-22, 25-19, 25-15 for its third straight victory. UMHB evens its season record at 6-6 with the win. The loss drops the Rams to 0-7 on the year.
            The Cru fought back from a 21-19 deficit in the first set and won six of the last seven points to get the win. The two teams would be tied at 14 in the second set before the Cru pulled away late and won 11 of the final 16 points. UMHB would break open a close set with a run midway through the third set and then cruised to the victory.
            Tina Miller led the Cru with 12 kills and Morgan Baker added nine kills. Alexis Tharp led UMHB with 16 assists and Anissa Garcia also reached double figures with 15. Erin Maenius and Jasmine Austin had 11 digs apiece for the Cru. UMHB hit .250 as a team in the victory.
            Chantella Washington topped HTU with nine kills and April Newcomb and Faron Bradley had seven kills apiece. Bradley added 18 assists and Diamond Estell posted 11. Shauntaya Williams had a team-best 10 digs.
            The Cru will now open American Southwest Conference East Division play this weekend. UMHB will take on LeTourneau University in a 5:00 PM start Friday in Longview. The Cru will then play U.T.-Dallas and the University of Dallas on Saturday in Irving.
