Men's soccer edged by LeTourneau in double overtime

Longview, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team fought back from an early deficit and played the entire match with a man disadvantage, but the Cru still took LeTourneau University to double overtime before falling 3-2 to the Yellowjackets Friday in Longview. The loss drops the 7th-ranked Cru to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. LeTourneau improves to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the ASC with the victory.
            UMHB would have its back to the wall early, when Trevor Shoppach was red-carded just 26 seconds into the match. The Cru would play a man down the rest of the way and fell behind 1-0 when LeTourneau scored with just 14:45 left in the first half. Kelvin Wiah scored off a corner kick to put the Yellowjackets on top and it was also the first goal allowed by the Cru this season. UMHB battled back to tie it a little more than one minute later when Chris Torres scored off an assist from Vincent Morales. LeTourneau would retake the lead when Trey McLaughlin scored in the 50th minute to make it 2-1. UMHB fought back again to tie the match at 2 when Morales scored an unassisted goal in the 83rd minutes. The two teams would be scoreless through the first overtime and most of the second before the Yellowjackets scored the game-winner off of a free kick with just 19 seconds remaining in the match.

            Mark Miller gave up his first three goals of the season for UMHB, but still finished with seven saves. Kyle Davis had six saves in goal for LeTourneau. The Yellowjackets also out shot the Cru 23-18 in the match.

            The Cru will now continue its road trip with a 4:00 PM start at East Texas Baptist University tomorrow in Marshall. UMHB will then return home to host U.T.-Tyler and Concordia Texas next weekend at the Cru Sports Plex.
