Longview, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team took an early lead and then put the match away with a pair of late goals as the Cru posted a 3-0 victory over LeTourneau University Friday afternoon in Longview. UMHB improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops LeTourneau to 0-6 on the year and 0-1 in the ASC.
UMHB grabbed a 1-0 lead when Kim Wobecky scored an unassisted goal just 10:40 into the first half. It would stay way late into the match before the Cru added some insurance. Erin Salyer scored off an assist from Lexy Smith in the 60th minute to make it 2-0 and Angel Kemmerer would add an unassisted goal four minutes later to provide the final margin. That would be more than enough as the Cru defense held LeTourneau to just six shots in the match.
Erica Harris went the distance in goal for UMHB and finished with two saves to post the shutout. Nicole Tammelin and Falon Renfro combined for seven saves in goal for LeTourneau. UMHB outshot the Yellowjackets 21-6 in the victory and held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Cru will now continue its road trip with a 2:00 PM start at East Texas Baptist University tomorrow in Marshall. UMHB will then return home to host U.T.-Tyler and Concordia Texas next weekend at the Cru Sports Plex.
