Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team stormed back from an early deficit, but the Cru comeback fell just short in a 2-1 loss to U.T.-Tyler Friday afternoon in Belton. The loss drops the 24th-ranked Cru to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. The Patriots improve to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the ASC with the victory.
The Patriots broke through in the first half to take a 1-0 lead when Elijah Shipman knocked home assists from Jake Urbaniak and Taylor Nelson-Cook at the 30:42 mark. U.T.-Tyler would add some breathing room when Nelson-Cook controlled a loose ball in front of the UMHB net and drilled it into the corner for a 2-0 Patriot lead at the 67:02 mark of the match. The Cru would cut the gap to 2-1 just 1:26 later when Neiko Camp scored off a Taylor Bates assist, but that would be the end of the offense for both teams. Each team had chances late in the match but could not convert those opportunities, leaving several shots wide. Both teams also missed high from inside the box in the final 20 minutes of the match.

Mark Miller finished with three saves in goal for UMHB as the Cru was scored on for only the second time in six matches this season. Mark Oliphant also had three saves in goal for the Patriots. U.T.-Tyler outshot the Cru 11-9 in a defensive match.

The UMHB men will wrap up the weekend with a 3:00 PM home match against Concordia Texas tomorrow. The start time for that match was moved up one hour from the original schedule to avoid a conflict with tomorrow night's UMHB home football game.
