Belton, TX – After an hour and a half weather delay, due to lightening in the area, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team could not overcome the Tornados of Concordia who beat the CRU 3-1. UMHB was able to score late in the game to prevent the shut out.
Concordia got off to a fast start when a Tornado forward was fouled in the box five and half minutes into the game and was awarded a penalty kick. Amanda Tarpley took the PK for the Tornados and found the lower left side of the net for the score. Taylor Franklin would give the Tornados a 2-0 first-half lead off a corner kick assist from Kiera Ruck. Franklin struck the ball toward the crossbar as UMHB's Kellee Shearer tried to kick the ball clear, but the officials awarded the score as the ball had crossed the plane of the goal.
The CRU would put together three shots on goal in the first half and a total of 14 for the game. The Tornados had 12 total shots on goal. The CRU had two keepers split time during the game as Meredith West got the start, and Erica Harris took over in goal in the 2nd half. Concordia's goal keeper, Tyler Steinbach took a shutout late into the 2nd half, but a goal off the foot of Jordan Powers with 14 minutes left in the game prevented a scoreless game for the keeper.
The win takes Concordia to 4-3-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in the ASC. To loss puts the CRU at 2-3-1 and 1-2-1 in the ASC. The CRU will now hit the road to take on the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR on the 30th of September. Game time in Clarksville is a 2:00pm start. Two days later, they will match up against UT Dallas in Richardson, TX; that game set for 1:00pm.
