Clarksville, AR – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team grabbed an early lead and then put the game away midway through the first half as the Cru posted a 7-2 victory over the University of the Ozarks Thursday afternoon in Clarksville, Arkansas. The UMHB women improve to 3-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Eagles to 0-9-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the ASC on the year.
The Cru would take a 1-0 lead when Erin Salyer scored off an assist from
Meredith Norman just 1:07 into the match. Ozarks would tie it on Kristi Gordon's goal 21 minutes later. But UMHB would use the Norman-Salyer connection to retake the lead when Salyer scored off another Norman assist 3:30 later. Norman would stretch the lead to 3-1 with a penalty kick goal three minutes later.
Maizey Cardy would score off an assist from Salyer to make it 4-1 in the 30
th minute and Cardy then fed an assist to Salyer to make it 5-1 34 minutes into the match. It would stay that way into the second half before Salyer scored her fourth goal of the match 1:11 into the half. Norman would add her second goal of the match to give the Cru a 7-1 edge. Abby Kern would score in the 70
th minute to close out the scoring for Ozarks.
Meredith West had one save in goal for UMHB. Salyer finished with four goals and two assists and tied the Cru single game record with 10 total points. Norman finished with two goals and two assists for six total points. Morgan O'Neil recorded nine saves in goal for Ozarks. UMHB would out shoot the Eagles 21-4 in the victory.
The Cru women will close out their road trip with a 1:00 PM start at U.T.-Dallas Saturday in Richardson. UMHB will then return home to host Louisiana College and Mississippi College next weekend at the Cru Sports Plex.
