Brownwood, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team grabbed an early lead and then held off Howard Payne's rally attempt as the Cru posted a 2-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets Tuesday afternoon in Brownwood. The UMHB men improve to 9-3-1 overall and 8-3 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops Howard Payne to 6-7 overall and 4-6 in ASC on the season.

The Cru took a 1-0 lead when Tyler Wicks scored off an assist from John Williams at the 10:53 mark. It would stay 1-0 late into the second half before UMHB added some breathing room on a Michael White goal off an assist from Derek Geels in the 75th minute. HPU tightened the gap to 2-1 when Jaime Benitez scored an unassisted goal just 1:50 later, but the Cru defense stiffened from there.

Adam Cecil finished with four saves in goal to nab the victory for UMHB. Kyle Huesing had one save for Howard Payne. UMHB was outshot 13-7 in the match, but converted two of its three shots on goal.

The Cru will return to action with a road match at Centenary College on Friday. That match is scheduled for a 6:00 PM start in Shreveport, Louisiana.
