Brownwood, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team could not find enough offense to overcome a first-half deficit and the Cru dropped a 2-0 decision to Howard Payne University Tuesday afternoon in Brownwood. The loss drops the UMHB women to 4-10-1 overall and 4-7 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. The Yellow Jackets improve to 8-4 overall and 7-3 in the ASC with the victory.
HPU took a 1-0 lead 11:00 into the match when Shannon Costello scored off an assist from Leslie Jones. It would stay that way deep into the second half before Jones added an insurance goal off an assist from Costello in the 74
th minute.
UMHB would hold the Yellow Jackets to just eight shots in the game, but the Cru could manage just seven shots of its own.
Erica Harris had four saves in goal for UMHB. Adrienne Walker had four saves in a shutout in goal for HPU.
The Cru will return to action with a road game at Centenary College on Friday. That match is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start in Shreveport, Louisiana.
