Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team grabbed an early lead and then held off a LeTourneau rally as the Cru posted a 3-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets Friday night in Belton. UMHB posted a 25-16, 25-16, 19-25, 25-20 win to improve to 17-7 overall and 12-4 in American Southwest Conference play. LeTourneau drops to 2-24 overall and 2-14 in the ASC with the loss.
Kaydie Cochran led the Cru with 14 kills and
Kimberly Smidovec also reached double figures with 11.
Anissa Garcia had 45 assists and 13 digs to post team-highs in both categories.
Elise Butler also added 10 digs. The Cru was outhit .207 to .184 and LeTourneau had 8.5 team blocks compared to 8.0 for UMHB.
Shana Evans had 16 kills to lead the Yellow Jackets and Jo Runnels chipped in with 13. Brooke Sheranko had a team-high 26 assists and Kelsie Doran had 15 assists. Jessica Zabojnik led the team with 21 digs.
UMHB will close out ASC play with a 6:00 PM home match against East Texas Baptist tomorrow night at the Mayborn Campus Center. The Cru can clinch second-place in the ASC East Division with a win in that match. UMHB will then close out the regular season with a trip to the Millsaps College Tournament next weekend.
