Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team will travel to Brownwood to take on Howard Payne University in another key American Southwest Conference showdown this Saturday. The game will kick off at 2:00 PM and a UMHB win would move the Cru one game closer to clinching another ASC title and locking up the league's automatic berth in the NCAA Division III National Championships. UMHB will enter the game with a 7-0 overall record and a 5-0 mark in ASC play. The Cru is ranked fourth in the nation in both major polls and UMHB is the only ASC program in control of its own destiny in the hunt for a postseason berth. Howard Payne is 1-7 overall and 1-5 in ASC play on the season and UMHB leads the all-time series between the two teams 11-2. However, both of the Yellow Jackets victories have come in Brownwood, including a last-second 24-20 win in 2005 over a UMHB team that was ranked third in the nation. The memory of that loss still sticks with the Cru coaching staff and should serve as motivation again this year.

“I remember going out there and we just played like we expected to win just by showing up,” Cru head coach Pete Fredenburg said. “Howard Payne gave great effort that day and we expect them to do it again on Saturday. Our players understand that we are going to get every opponent's best shot and that we have to match that effort. We have some very high goals for this program and we can't take anything for granted if we are going to reach those goals.”
