Kerrville, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team took the lead early and never looked back as the Cru rolled to a 7-0 victory over Schreiner University Friday afternoon in Kerrville. The UMHB men improve to 10-4-1 overall and 9-3 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Mountaineers to 3-13 overall and 3-9 in the ASC on the season.
UMHB jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead, taking advantage of a strong wind at the Cru's back.
Derek Geels opened the scoring with an unassisted goal 11:21 into the match.
John Williams added a goal off a
Trevor Shoppach assist 18 minutes later.
Chris Torres stretched the lead to 3-0 off a
Kyle Dickey assist in the 31
st minute and Torres assisted Williams' second goal of the match with 4:45 left in the first half.
Kevin Johnson,
Michael White and
Isaiah Minick added second-half goals as UMHB put the match out of reach.
Adam Cecil posted six saves to record the shutout in goal for the Cru. Matt Johnson had four saves for the Mountaineers. UMHB outshot Schreiner 29-13 in the match and the Mountaineers played the final 22 minutes of the match a man down after having a player red-carded at the 68:21 mark.
The Cru will now close out the regular season with a road match at Texas Lutheran University tomorrow in Seguin. That match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM. The UMHB men will then advance to the ASC Championship Tournament next weekend in Tyler. The Cru will be at least the #5 seed in that tournament and will play a first-round match next Friday.
