Kerrville, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team grabbed an early lead and then held on with a dominating defensive performance as the Cru topped Schreiner University 1-0 Friday afternoon in Kerrville. The UMHB women improve to 5-11-1 overall and 5-7 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Mountaineers to 3-14 overall and 2-10 in the ASC on the year.
Lexy Smith provided the matches only scoring when she connected in the 25
th minute to give UMHB a 1-0 lead. The Cru defense would step up from there, holding the Mountaineers to just two shots, none of them on goal in the win.
UMHB would outshoot Schreiner 17-2 overall in the match and the Cru put eight of those shots on goal.
Erica Harris went the distance in goal to post the shutout for UMHB. Lizeth De La Torre had seven saves in goal for the Mountaineers.
The Cru will close out the season with one more ASC road match at Texas Lutheran tomorrow. UMHB will take on the Bulldogs in a 1:00 PM start in Seguin.
