Seguin, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team grabbed the lead late in the first half and then added some breathing room in the second as the Cru posted a 3-0 lead over Texas Lutheran University Saturday afternoon in Seguin. The UMHB men improve to 11-4-1 overall and 10-3 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss ends TLU's season at 1-16 overall and 1-12 in the ASC.
The match was scoreless deep into the first half before the Cru finally broke through when
Michael White knocked home a rebound 4:32 before halftime to make it 1-0 UMHB.
Kyle Dickey would score off an assist from
Kevin Johnson at the 61:12 mark and
Derek Geels provided a little more insurance with an unassisted goal exactly seven minutes later.
The Cru would outshoot TLU 40-13 in the match and put 22 of those shots on goal.
Adam Cecil had four saves in the shutout for UMHB. Michael Roell posted 19 saves in goal for Texas Lutheran.
UMHB will now advance to the ASC Championship Tournament next weekend. That tournament runs Friday through Sunday and will be hosted by the University of Texas at Tyler. The bracket and field for the ASC Men's Soccer Tournament will be announced on Sunday.
