Seguin, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team fought back from an early deficit, but could not overcome a second-half goal as the Cru fell to Texas Lutheran 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Seguin. The loss ends the season for the UMHB women at 5-12-1 overall and 5-8 in American Southwest Conference play. Texas Lutheran ends the year at 5-13 overall and 5-8 in the ASC.
TLU grabbed a 1-0 lead when Whitney Rayo headed home a corner kick 20:41 into the match. The Cru tied the match with 3:03 left in the first half when
Angel Kemmerer scored off an assist from
Taylor Bullock. The Bulldogs would score what proved to be the game-winner on a penalty kick at the 61:25 mark of the match and the Cru women would have five more shots but could not find the equalizer.
UMHB outshot the Bulldogs 17-5 in the match, and put eight of those shots on goal.
Erica Harris had two saves in goal for the Cru. Devin Crump and Devin Walton combined for seven saves in goal for TLU in the match.
The careers of five UMHB seniors also came to an end with the loss. Harris, Kemmerer, Bullock,
Meredith West and
Lexy Smith all played their final matches as members of the Cru on Saturday.
