Tyler, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team dominated the first half and the Cru rolled to a 74-52 victory over U.T.-Tyler Saturday afternoon in Tyler. The 15
th-ranked UMHB men improve to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the win. The loss drops the Patriots to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the ASC.
The Cru opened the game with a 19-0 run and held the Patriots scoreless for the first 5:21 of the game. UMHB would hold a 40-23 lead at halftime. The lead would grow to as many as 24 points in the second half as the Cru eased to the win.
Marlon Miller led the UMHB men with 24 points in 10-17 shooting.
Sterling Phillips added 17 points for the Cru.
Greg Wiernas grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
Darren Houliston was the only player in double figures for the Patriots with 11 points. Lance Murphy added nine points for U.T.-Tyler.
The Cru shot 50 percent from the field and turned the ball over just nine times. The Patriots shot 30 percent from the field and turned it over 16 times.
The UMHB men will now take a week off for finals before opening ASC West Division play. The Cru will return to action with a 3:00 PM tip-off at Concordia Texas next Saturday in Austin.
