Marshall, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team had the defending national champions on the ropes in game two, but the Cru could not put East Texas Baptist away as the Tigers rallied for a 6-5 win in eight innings to cap a doubleheader sweep of UMHB Tuesday evening in Marshall. ETBU won game one 8-0. The Cru softball team drops to 3-3 on the season with the two losses. The Tigers improve to 4-0 on the year with the two victories.
 
UMHB jumped out to 4-0 lead but could not hold off ETBU's rally in a 6-5, eight inning loss in game two. Hannah White gave the Cru a 3-0 lead when she blasted a three-run homer in the top of the fourth inning. Jordan Schrutka's RBI single pushed the lead to 4-0 in the top of the sixth before the Tigers put five on the board in the bottom of the frame. All five runs were unearned as the Cru committed three errors. There were also three hits, two walks and a pair of stolen bases in the inning. UMHB would answer with one in the top of the seventh to tie the game at five when Caitlin Bollier hit a one-out triple and scored on White's two-out single. It was stay 5-5 into the bottom of the eighth. ETBU's Lya Swaner led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored the game-winner on Beck Young's single. White finished 2-4 with four RBI for the Cru and she took the loss to drop to 1-2 after giving up just one earned run on 10 hits in seven and a third innings. Bollier, Schrutka and Brittany Moreno also had two hits apiece for UMHB. Erin Garcia picked up the win in relief to move to 3-0 on the season for the Tigers.
 
ETBU broke open game one with a pair of three-run innings and the Tigers posted an 8-0 victory over the Cru in a game shortened to five innings by the run rule. ETBU put two runs on the board in the bottom of the third inning after Cru starting pitcher Erica White left with an injury in the bottom of the second. It would stay 2-0 into the bottom of the fourth inning before Ashton Brey tripled home two runs and came around to score on a groundout. The Tigers then added three more in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game. Hannah White had both of the Cru's hit in the game. Ariel Kemmerer took the loss to drop to 0-1 after giving up four earned runs in three and two-thirds innings of relief. Garcia tossed a complete-game, two-hitter and struck out seven to move to 2-0 on the season.
 
UMHB will now return home to host U.T.-Dallas for a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday. The Cru and the Comets will face off at 1:00 PM at Dee Dillon Field.
