San Antonio, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team saw a two-run lead slip away during Trinity University's four-run seventh inning and the Cru fell to the 12
th-ranked Tigers 7-4 in non-conference action Tuesday night in San Antonio. The loss drops UMHB to 3-7 on the season. Trinity moves to 12-1 on the year with the victory.
The Cru jumped out to a 1-0 lead on
Josh Fredrick's RBI single in the top of the first inning. Trinity tied the game with a run in the bottom of the first and took a 2-1 lead on Kevin Jackson's RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. UMHB retook the lead with three runs in the top of the seventh.
Logan Pratt tied the game with an RBI fielder's choice.
Jeremy Sapp put the Cru up 3-2 with an RBI single and pushed it to 4-2 when he scored on a double steal. Trinity answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-4 lead. An RBI groundout and run-scoring single tied the game and Kyle Felix's two-run double gave the Tigers the lead. Trinity added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 7-4. The Cru would put a runner on base with one out in the top of the ninth, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat.
Andy Evans took the loss for UMHB to drop to 0-1 on the year. Evans gave up three runs on two hits in two and a third innings of work. Ben Klimesh came on in relief for Trinity to earn the win and move to 5-0. He struck out seven and did not give up a hit in two and two-third innings.
Braden Embry had two of the Cru's six hits. Jackson had three hits for the Tigers.
UMHB will now return home to host Robert Morris for a three-game series this weekend. The two teams will play a 2:00 PM single game on Friday before closing out the series with a 12:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday at Red Murff Field.
