Richardson, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team could not overcome an eight-run inning in game one and the Cru could not hold on to an early lead in game two as UMHB dropped a doubleheader to U.T.-Dallas Monday evening in Richardson. The Cru fell 11-2 and 6-4 to drop to 7-7 on the season. U.T.-Dallas improves to 8-4 on the year with the two victories.

The Comets broke open a tight game with an eight-run third inning on the way to an 11-2 win in game one. Makesa Richey hit a two-run double to key a three-run bottom of the first for UTD. The Cru cut it to 3-1 on Kaysie Creech's RBI single in the top of the second and used a run-scoring error in the top of the third to pull to within 3-2. Then the Comets erupted in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach. Richey had another two-run double in the frame and UTD took advantage of three walks and a UMHB error in the inning. The Cru would not get a runner past first base in the final two innings and the game ended after the top of the fifth on the run rule. Hannah White took the loss for UMHB to drop to 3-5 on the season. Four different players had hits for the Cru as UTD pitcher Heather Foust held UMHB to four hits and one earned run in five innings of work.

UMHB took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but could not hold on in a 6-4 game two loss. Megan Bohne singled home two runs and Creech added an RBI single for the Cru in the first. The Comets cut it to 3-1 with a run in the bottom of the second and then used a four-run third inning to take a 5-3 lead. UTD used three hits and a pair of Cru errors in that frame. The Comets stretched the lead to 6-3 with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Caitlin Bollier hit a one-out solo home run in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 6-4, but UMHB left the bases loaded. The Cru would then put the tying run on base in the top of the seventh, but could not push across a run. Ariel Kemmerer took the loss for UMHB to drop to 1-2 on the season. Bohne had two hits and two runs batted in for the Cru.

UMHB will now return home to host Howard Payne University for a four-game series this weekend. The Cru and Yellow Jackets will play 1:00 PM doubleheaders on both Friday and Saturday in the American Southwest Conference West Division openers for both teams.
