Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team took control of the game with a four-run first inning and the Cru rolled to a 9-1 victory over Austin College Tuesday afternoon in Belton. UMHB improves to 7-7 on the season with the win and the Cru has now won seven of its last nine games. The loss drops the Kangaroos to 3-11 on the season.
 
The Cru put four runs on the board in the bottom of the first to take control of the game. Ricky Brenek led off with a triple and scored on Zach Young's single. Braden Embry doubled home Young and scored on Derek Draeger's double. Reinaldo Araujo added an RBI double to close out the scoring in the frame. UMHB added two more in the third when Araujo doubled home a run, stole third and scored on a throwing error. Seth Mogavero's solo homer made it 7-0 UMHB in the fourth and Araujo added an RBI groundout in the fifth to make it 8-0. The Roos lone run scored in the top of the seventh and UMHB closed out the scoring with Jeremy Sapp's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning.
 
Andy Evans earned the win for UMHB to even his record at 1-1. Six Cru pitchers combined on a six-hitter. Brenek had three hits for UMHB and Araujo finished with two hits and three RBI. Seth Lynn also added two hits for the Cru in the victory.
 
The Cru will continue its home stand with a three-game series against Hardin-Simmons University this weekend. The two teams will open the series with a 2:00 PM single game on Friday before closing out the weekend with a 12:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday. The series marks the start of American Southwest Conference West Division play for both teams.
