Alpine, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team rallied in the final inning of both games, but the Cru comeback would only hold in one of those games as UMHB split a doubleheader with Sul Ross State University Thursday in Alpine. The Cru stormed back to post a 10-7 victory in game two after dropping a 2-1 decision in the opener of the double dip.
UMHB used a six-run, two-out ninth inning rally to erase a 7-4 deficit and the Cru held on for a 10-7 win over Sul Ross State in game two.
Zach Young's RBI single gave the Cru a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, but the Lobos scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to grab a 4-1 lead.
Ricky Brenek doubled home two runs in the top of the fifth and Young followed with an RBI double to tie the game at four. The Lobos would take a 7-4 lead with a three-run rally in the bottom of the fifth. It would stay that way into the top of the ninth.

Josh Fredrick followed with a monster home run to left center field to tie the game at seven.
Chris Joshlin would be hit by a pitch and
Braden Embry reached when the Lobo third baseman could not handle his hot shot down the line.
Seth Lynn then blasted a three-run home run of his own to give UMHB a 10-7 edge. The Lobos went down in order in the bottom of the ninth as the Cru held on for the victory.
Kreece Cooper picked up his second win of the season with four innings of one-hit relief work. Young had three hits and Brenek and Fredrick added two hits apiece for the Cru.
UMHB tied game one in the top of the seventh, but could not hold off the Lobos in the bottom of the seventh in a 2-1 loss. Brennyn Smith's solo home run in the bottom of the first inning gave Sul Ross a 1-0 lead. It would stay that way into the top of the seventh as UMHB's
Chance Ryan and the Lobos' Clayton Heise locked up in a pitcher's duel. Joshlin led off the top of the seventh with a double for the Cru and pinch-runner
Jeremy Sapp moved to third on Embry's groundout. Sapp would score the tying run when the Lobos catcher could not handle a third strike against
Seth Mogavero. In the bottom of the seventh, Andy Silcox reached on a one-out single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Another wild pitch would move Silcox to third and he scored the game-winning run on Ricardo Vera's sacrifice fly. Ryan took the loss to drop to 6-4 despite scattering four hits in six and two-thirds innings. He struck out five and walked two. Heise earned the win to move to 4-3 after not allowing an earned run on six hits in seven innings. Joshlin and
Zach Crosswhite had two hits apiece for UMHB in the loss.
