Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's tennis team fell behind during doubles and never recovered as the Cru lost to U.T.-Tyler 5-1 in the American Southwest Conference Women's Tennis Championship Match Sunday in Belton. The loss ends UMHB's season at 13-6. U.T.-Tyler improves to 17-7 and wins its fourth straight ASC title. The Patriots also claim the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships with the victory.
Megan and
Mallory Aarhus teamed for an 8-2 victory at #1 doubles, but U.T.-Tyler took wins at #2 and #3 to claim a 2-1 lead after doubles. Morgan Wilkins posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over
Lauren Knight at #6 singles before
AshLee Bilbo fell at #5 singles and
Megan Richardson lost at #4 singles to clinch the match for the Patriots. UMHB was also down a set at #1, #2 and #3 singles.
The Cru's Mallory and
Megan Aarhus were named to the ASC All-Tournament Team. UMHB was making its first appearance in the ASC Championship Match since the tournament expanded to six teams. The Cru also won the first ASC West Division title in school history and hosted the ASC Tournament for the first time. The match closed out the career of lone UMHB senior
Rebecca Everett.
