Sherman, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team took an early lead in today's official season opener. The Cru first scored on a header by
Trevor Shoppach at the 5:01 mark.
Trevor Shoppach made it 2-0 at the 33:30 mark. He had four shots on the day and connected with two. The Shoppach goals would be the only scoring to complete the first half.
Kyle Dickey and
Tyler Wicks both took three shots a piece to keep the offense surging forward.
Austin College returned the second half with some high intensity to score. Chris Melton connected on two goals for Austin College to bring them even with the Cru. He first scored 3:47 into the second half and then tied the match with just 6:00 minutes left to play in regulation. Austin College keeper Grant Gosselin had seven saves to preserve the tie.
The UMHB men currently have a record of 0-0-1. Austin College improves their record to 2-1-1 on the season. The Crusaders will strive for their first win against LeTourneau University in the American Southwest Conference this upcoming Friday with a 4:00 kickoff time.
