Belton, TX— The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team took control of the match early and grabbed a 2-0 victory over Southwestern University Tuesday afternoon in Belton. The Cru improves to 1-0-1 on the season. The loss drops Southwestern to 2-3-1 overall.
UMHB took a 1-0 lead when
Kevin Johnson scored unassisted just 1:42 into the match.
Kyle Dickey added another unassisted goal at the 9:50 mark. The Cru had 16 total shots compared to just five for the Pirates.
Adam Cecil posted three saves in goal for the Cru as he posted the shutout.
Matthew Nickell and Thomas Davis both had two shots for the Southwestern offense. Goal keeper Nick Pierce had four saves to help the Pirate defense.
Trevor Shoppach and
Alex Perez both pushed offensively with three shots a piece during today's win. The UMHB men will be back in action for the first American Southwest Conference game of the season on Friday September 16
th.
