Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team fought back from an early deficit and the Cru posted a four-set victory over Centenary College Friday night in Belton. UMHB recorded a 19-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-18 victory to improve to 6-3 overall. Centenary falls to 4-2 overall with the loss.
The Cru seemed sluggish in an opening set loss, but dominated the second set to even the match. UMHB fought back from a 9-2 deficit in the third set before tying the set at 13. The Cru would take its first lead at 17-16 before holding on for a 2-1 lead.
Sophia Alexiou's strong hitting performance in the fourth set spearheaded the Cru attack and iced the victory.
Kaydie Cochran topped UMHB with 18 kills and Alexiou added 13 while hitting .545.
Kimberly Smidovec chipped in with 12 kills and
Morgan Baker and
Tina Miller also reached double figures with 10 kills apiece.
Anissa Garcia posted 55 assists and Baker topped three players in double figures with 15 digs.
Shelby Singleton led the Ladies with 16 kills and she added five block assists. Caitlin Neese posted 43 assists and Jaclyn Lopez led three players in doubles in double figures with 17 digs.
UMHB will return to action with a pair of road conference matches next weekend. The Cru will take on East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau University on Friday and Saturday.
