Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team rolled through the first two sets and then stormed back from a big deficit in the third as the Cru rolled to a three-set victory over Mississippi College Thursday night in Belton. UMHB posted a 25-19, 25-13, 25-20 victory to improve to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in American Southwest Conference play. The Cru has now won five matches in a row and eight of its last nine. The Choctaws drop to 6-8 overall and 3-2 in the ASC with the loss.
The Cru fell behind 8-4 in the opening set before battling back to take its first lead at 9-8. UMHB jumped out to 10-3 and 17-6 leads in the second set before cruising to the win. In the third set, MC jumped out to 5-1 and 12-4 leads before UMHB fought back. The Cru would take its first lead at 20-19 and then hung on for the victory.
Sara Hayward led UMHB with 12 kills and
Morgan Baker and
Kaydie Cochran added nine kills apiece.
Anissa Garcia recorded 36 assists and Baker and Cochran both reached double figures in digs with 11 and 10 respectively.
Courtney Creamer and Rachel Farmer topped the Choctaws with six kills apiece. Lauryn Hamrick had a team-high 23 assists. Lindsey Scallan led MC with 10 digs.
The Cru will return to action with a trip to the ASC Dig Pink Cross Over Challenge this weekend. UMHB will play three matches against ASC West Division opponents on Friday and Saturday in Seguin. The Cru will open with a 5:00 PM match against Sul Ross State tomorrow.
