Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team could not overcome a first-half deficit and the Cru dropped a 2-0 decision to the University of the Ozarks Friday afternoon in Belton. The loss drops the 14
th-ranked Cru to 5-1-1 overall and 4-1 in the American Southwest Conference on the season. Ozarks improves to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in the ASC with the victory.
The Eagles would grab a 1-0 lead just 4:27 before halftime when Shaun Keane's long free kick glanced off a UMHB defenders head and just over the fingertips of Cru goalkeeper
Adam Cecil. It would stay that way into the second half before Guido Salas scored off an assist from Travis Murnan 6:54 into the second half. UMHB would have chances, but could not push one past Ozarks keeper Neil Thompson.
Thompson finished with three saves in goal. Cecil had two saves for the Cru. UMHB narrowly outshot the Eagles 12-9 in the match.
UMHB will close out its home stand with a 3:00 PM match against U.T.-Dallas tomorrow. The Cru will then hit the road for matches at Louisiana College and Mississippi College next week.
