Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team played well in spurts, but could not put enough of those spurts together as the Cru fell to U.T.-Tyler in the American Southwest Conference East Division opener for both teams Tuesday night in Belton. The loss drops UMHB to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the ASC on the season. The Patriots improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the ASC with the victory.
The Patriots grabbed the lead early and never looked back on the way to a 25-18, 25-14, 17-25, 25-13 win. The Cru hit .200 compared to Tyler's .304 hitting percentage and the Patriots also posted nine service aces.
Kimberly Smidovec and
Kaydie Cochran led UMHB with 11 kills apiece.
Anissa Garcia had a team-best 24 assists and
Elise Butler had 20 digs. Stacey Wilson led the way for the Patriots with 16 kills and Danika Waldrep also reached double figures with 13. Emily Wood had 28 digs and Madison Kosir had 16 assists for U.T.-Tyler.
The Cru will now return to action with a trip to the Austin College Tournament. UMHB will play four matches in two days in Sherman during that event.
