Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team will open the 2011 season with the first of a school-record six home games when Wisconsin-La Crosse comes to Tiger Field for a 6:00 PM kickoff. The Cru will be opening its 14
th season of football with its first home match-up against the Eagles. Wisconsin-La Crosse (0-1) is coming off a 26-7 loss to defending national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater in its season opener last week. UMHB will enter the game ranked fifth in the country by D3football.com and the Cru has won 20 consecutive regular season home games.
UMHB won the inaugural meeting between the two teams 24-19 last year in La Crosse. The Cru fell behind 19-0 early in the third quarter before scoring the game's final 24 points. The memory of that early deficit is still fresh in the minds of the UMHB team, along with the excitement of finally seeing the 2011 version of the Cru finally hit the field for a game.
“We are still a work in progress at this point, and we have lots of room for improvement,” Cru head coach
Pete Fredenburg said. “We have some very talented youngsters, but we are going to have to keep developing some chemistry and really find out what kind of team this can be. How will we look in four or five weeks, we just don't know at this point.”
