Men's Basketball routs Concordia 94-73 to move to 13-0

Belton, TX— The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team took control of the game with a first-half run and the Cru rolled to a 94-73 victory over Concordia Texas Tuesday night in Belton. The 8th-ranked UMHB men improve to 13-0 overall and 9-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Tornados to 7-6 overall and 5-4 in the ASC.
 
Concordia took a 7-6 lead early in the first half before UMHB took control. The Cru used a 16-1 run to open up a double digit lead and the edge would be 52-30 UMHB at halftime. The Cru led by 17 or more points the entire second half and pushed the advantage to as many as 28 points before Concordia made a late run with the UMHB reserves on the floor at the end of the contest.
 
Marlon Miller topped five players in double figures with 21 points. Damian Davis added a career-high 14 points and seven rebounds, Kitrick Bell added 13 points and 10 rebounds off the bench and James Allen and Thomas Orr chipped in 10 points apiece. Dorian Purnell pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds and Greg Wiernas had 11 as three UMHB players reached double digits.
 
Donald Lee and Henry Riasco led Concordia with 12 points each. Kenny Williams added 10 and Terence Sims had a team-high nine rebounds.
 
The Cru shot 53 percent from the field and went 27-42 from the free-throw line. UMHB out rebounded Concordia 57-37 in the game to help overcome 30 turnovers. CTX hit 32 percent from the field and was just 8-29 from three-point range.
 
UMHB returns to action with a 7:30 PM tip-off at Schreiner University Thursday night in Kerrville. The Cru will then return home to host Texas Lutheran University in a 3:00 PM start Saturday afternoon at the Mayborn Campus Center.
