Men's soccer gives Mississippi College first conference loss

Clinton, MS – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team handed Mississippi College their first conference loss of the season in a 2-1 victory Thursday afternoon in Clinton, Miss. This marks the second time this season the Cru has beaten a previously undefeated team in conference play, with the first win coming against Texas-Dallas last weekend. With the win, the Cru improved to 9-3-1 overall and 7-1-1 in American Southwest Conference action, while the Choctaws fall to 9-5-0 on the season and 8-1-0 in in conference play.

Scott Poole gave the Cru a 1-0 halftime lead, then broke the 1-1 tie at the 73:14 mark to solidify the win for UMHB. Mississippi College outshot the Cru 17-8 in the match. Poole led the Cru with two shots. Brandon Stegmeyer played 67:27 in goal for UMHB, recording three saves and allowing one goal. Blake Lander came in for relief, playing for 22:33 and recording two saves.  

UMHB will return to action Saturday with a 3 p.m. kickoff at Louisiana College. The Cru will finish the regular season next weekend with home matches against Hardin-Simmons on Friday, Oct. 26th and Howard Payne on Saturday, Oct. 27th. Both games will kickoff at 7 p.m.
