Game Two Box Score

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team came up with just enough offense to make a pair of solid pitching performances stand up as the Cru swept a doubleheader from Concordia Texas Monday afternoon in Belton. UMHB took game one 4-3 and won game two 2-0 to improve to 6-7 overall and 2-0 in American Southwest Conference West Division play on the season. The Tornados fall to 6-6 overall and 0-2 in the ASC West on the season with the two losses.

UMHB grabbed an early lead and then fought back with a late run to take game one 4-3. Erin Duhon scored on a wild pitch to give Concordia a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, before UMHB got out of a bases loaded jam to limit the damage. The Cru used a three-run third to take the lead. Caitlin Bollier walked with the bases loaded to tie the game and Hannah White's two-run single made it 3-1 UMHB. The Tornados tied the game with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Cru then scored what proved to be the game-winner on Bollier's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. White set down six of the last seven Concordia hitters to nail down the win. She struck out four and walked five while raising her record to 2-3. Four different players had hits for UMHB. Kat Moreno and Teylor Schiefelbein combined for a four-hitter for Concordia with Schiefelbein taking the loss. Duhon and Laura Abellanida had two hits apiece for the Tornados.

The Cru gave Rebekah Ragsdale all the offense she needed with two runs in the bottom of the second in a 2-0 game two win. Kaysie Creech doubled home the first run and scored on Jacqui Beach's RBI single to give UMHB that 2-0 lead. The Cru loaded the bases with one out in the third, but Lauren Vansickle gunned down Bollier trying to score on Jordan Giesen's fly out to end the threat. Concordia would put runners on second and third with no outs in the top of the sixth, but Ragsdale got two groundouts and fly out to pitch her way out of that jam and coasted to the win. Ragsdale scattered eight hits and struck out two while raising her record to 3-3. Bollier and White had two hits apiece for the Cru. Schiefelbein was tagged with the loss to drop to 4-3 on the year.

The two teams will close out the series with a 1:00 PM doubleheader tomorrow at Dee Dillon Field. The Cru will be the visiting team in both of those games since the doubleheader was originally scheduled to be played at Concordia. UMHB will then travel to Brownwood for a four-game ASC West Division series at Howard Payne this weekend.
