Postgame interview with Rebekah Ragsdale
Farmers Branch, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team grabbed another early lead, but made it stand up this time as the Cru posted a 5-0 victory over Hardin-Simmons in an elimination game at the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Friday in Farmers Branch. The Cru improves to 25-16 on the season with the win and stays alive in the tournament with the victory. The loss ends the Cowgirls season at 24-17 overall.
The Cru took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when
Caitlin Wells and
Leanne Hinojosa both scored on illegal pitches.
Hannah White's RBI single in the bottom of the third inning made it 3-0 UMHB and
Kaysie Creech provided a little more breathing room with a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning. That was all the support Cru pitcher
Rebekah Ragsdale would need. Ragsdale scattered four hits in a complete-game shutout performance. She struck out four and walked just one while raising her record to 14-6 on the year. Creech, White and Hinojosa all had two hits apiece to pace a nine-hit attack for the Cru in the game. Sarah Shurbet took the loss for HSU after giving up three runs in just over two innings of work in the circle.
UMHB will now advance to another elimination game at 6:30 PM tonight against East Texas Baptist. ETBU advanced with a 9-4 victory over Howard Payne University earlier on Friday. The Cru is now the only ASC West Division team left in the tournament field.
