BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team lost a hard-fought battle to Texas-Dallas 3-1 Saturday in Belton. UMHB falls to 8-2 on the season and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference action with the 20-25, 18-25, 25-21, 15-25 loss. Texas-Dallas improves to 8-2 on the season and 2-2 in ASC action.
The Cru opened the match with competitive first and second sets, but fell late in both to open the match at 0-2. UMHB opened the third set with an 11-4 run, never allowing Texas-Dallas to close the gap to less than four points.
Sapphire Reid served the final point of the set, giving the Cru their first set win of the day. The Cru opened the final set with an 8-9 deficit, before falling behind 10-17 and 13-20, eventually losing 15-25.
Lauren Powell led UMHB with 16 kills.
Tina Miller added 11 kills and Reid produced 10.
Shelby Prather had 22 assists, while Powell, Reid and
Kendall Pye led the team in digs with 18, 18 and 17, respectively.
The Cru is back in action Tuesday when the travel to Texas-Tyler for a 7 p.m. match. UMHB will return home Oct. 5-6 for the ASC Dig Pink II Challenge in Belton.
