Tyler, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team grabbed an early lead and then held off U.T.-Tyler's third set rally as the Cru posted a 3-0 victory over the Patriots Tuesday night in Tyler. UMHB improves to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in American Southwest Conference East Division play with the victory. The loss drops U.T.-Tyler to 6-6 overall and 1-3 in the ASC East on the season.
The Cru rolled through the first two sets and then fought off set point to win the last three points of the third set to win 25-15, 25-12, 27-25. UMHB hit .259 as a team in the victory while holding the Patriots to an .084 attack percentage.
Kendall Pye led the Cru with 10 kills and hit .381 in the match.
Tina Miller posted nine kills.
Shelby Prather had 29 assists and two UMHB players reached double figures in digs.
Lauren Powell led the team with 12 and
Sapphire Reid chipped in 11 more.
Breanna Brumlett topped the Patriots with 11 kills and Mallory Roberts registered 14 assists. Emily Wood was the only player in double figures in digs for U.T.-Tyler with 17.
The Cru will now return to action with the first ASC Dig Pink/Crossover Challenge this weekend in Austin. UMHB will open against tournament host Concordia Texas on Friday night. The Cru will then close out the tournament with matches against Hardin-Simmons and Schreiner University on Saturday.
