Tyler, TX -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team surrendered a goal in the first three minutes of the match and the Cru could not dig its way out of that early hole in a 1-0 loss to U.T.-Tyler Friday night in Tyler. The loss drops the UMHB men to 4-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in American Southwest Conference play on the year. The Patriots move to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in ASC play with the victory.
U.T.-Tyler punched home the only goal of the match when Alonzo Rivera scored off an assist from Adam Kemp just 2:55 into the first period. The Cru defense stiffened from there, and did not allow another shot on goal. UMHB managed just three shots with
Tyler Pate putting two of those on goal.
Reed Casterlin turned aside both of Pate's shots to record the shutout for the Patriots.
Brandon Stegmeyer went the distance in goal for the Cru. UMHB was outshot 8-3 in the match in a hard-fought, defensive struggle that saw the teams combine for 11 fouls and four yellow cards.
The UMHB men close out the road trip with a 6:00 PM match at LeTourneau University Saturday in Longview. The Cru will then return home to host Concordia Texas next Friday evening at the Cru Soccer Fields.
