Tyler, TX -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team kept it close, but could not come up with enough offense to overcome a second-half goal as the Cru women dropped a 1-0 decision to U.T.-Tyler Friday afternoon in Tyler. The UMHB women fall to 4-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the loss. The Patriots improve to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the ASC with the victory.
The Cru defense held U.T.-Tyler scoreless deep into the second half as
Sarah Kathryn Robinson turned away several good scoring chances. Charity Shipman finally broke the tie, using an assist from Chestley Strother to give the Patriots a 1-0 edge early in the 77
th minute. UMHB would not get another shot off, but turned away three more U.T.-Tyler scoring chances in the final minute.
Robinson finished with six saves in goal for UMHB. Macy Hurley had one save in posting the shutout for U.T.-Tyler. The Patriots outshot the Cru 20-2 with both of UMHB's shots coming in the first half and U.T.-Tyler had 10 corner kicks compared to just one for the Cru in the match.
The UMHB women close out the road trip with a 4:00 PM match at LeTourneau University Saturday in Longview. The Cru will then return home to host Concordia Texas next Friday evening at the Cru Soccer Fields.
