Clinton, MS – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team took control of the match with a scoring run midway through the first set and the Cru never looked back in a 3-0 victory over Mississippi College Friday afternoon in Clinton, Mississippi. UMHB improves to 12-3 overall and 5-2 in American Southwest Conference play with the win. The loss drops the Choctaws to 7-11 overall and 1-6 in the ASC on the season.
The Cru rolled to a 25-14, 25-20, 25-13 win over MC. UMHB trailed 8-6 in the first set before
Sapphire Reid served nine straight points to give the Cru a 15-8 lead. A Reid kill would end the set. The second set was tied at 15 before UMHB won six straight points and ten of the 15, capped by another Reid kill to make it 2-0. The Cru then jumped out to 4-0 and 9-3 leads in the third and
Brittani Cook's block ended the match.
Tina Miller and
Lauren Powell led UMHB with nine kills apiece as the Cru hit .333 in the match.
Shelby Prather added 38 assists and three service aces and
Kendra Feldmann topped the team with eight digs. UMHB also recorded five team blocks in the victory.
Rachel Farmer recorded a team-high seven kills for the Choctaws as MC hit just .065 as a team. Lauryn Hamrick posted 13 assists and Holly Tupper had 13 digs in the match.
The Cru will close out the road trip with a 2:00 PM match at East Texas Baptist University on Saturday. UMHB then returns home to play host to the second ASC/Dig Pink Crossover Challenge of the season next Friday and Saturday at the Mayborn Campus Center.
