Longview, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team grabbed an early lead and never looked back in a soggy 4-0 win over LeTourneau University Saturday evening in Longview. The Cru moves to 5-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. LeTourneau falls to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in ASC play with the loss.
Derek Geels gave UMHB a 1-0 lead when he connected off a pass from
Scott Poole in the fifth minute. It would stay that way into the second half before Geels came up big again. He converted a penalty kick in the 66
th minute and then added a third goal on a free kick three minutes later.
Jordan Freeman closed out the scoring off an assist from
John Williams in the 85
th minute and the Cru defense held on to post the shutout in a game played on a muddy field in a driving rain. UMHB outshot the Yellowjackets 10-5 in the victory.
The Cru men will now return home to take on Concordia Texas on Friday, October 5
th. That match will start at 7:00 PM as the second half of a doubleheader at the Cru Soccer Fields.
