Marshall, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team had chances to close out the match, but the Cru could not put East Texas Baptist away in a 3-2 loss to the Tigers Saturday afternoon in Marshall. UMHB fell 20-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-18, 19-17 to drop to 12-4 overall and 5-3 in American Southwest Conference play. ETBU improves to 10-5 overall and 7-1 in the ASC with the victory.

The two teams traded sets through the first four sets with UMHB winning the odd numbered sets and ETBU claiming the evens. The Cru would serve for the match with 15-14 and 16-15 leads in the fifth set, but could not close out the Tigers. Shelby Prather and Cheyenne Dowdey teamed for a block to keep UMHB alive down 17-16, but ETBU won the final two points to clinch the victory.

Sapphire Reid led the Cru with 18 kills and she added 15 digs. Tina Miller had 14 kills and Prather finished with 47 assists. Kendall Pye led five players in double figures with 16 digs and the Cru hit .181 as a team in the match.

Kassie Freitag had a match-high 23 kills for ETBU and four players reached double figures. Kayla Taylor had 60 assists and Shannon Taylor posted 21 digs for the Tigers.

The Cru will now return home to host the second ASC/Dig Pink Crossover Challenge of the season this weekend. UMHB will play three matches against ASC West Division teams on Friday and Saturday.
