Abilene, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's and women's basketball teams will finally close out their six-game road trip with a key American Southwest Conference West Division doubleheader at Hardin-Simmons Thursday night in Abilene. Following Thursday night's doubleheader, the Cru men and women will close out the regular season with four straight home games.
The UMHB men are currently 17-3 overall and hold down first-place in the ASC West Division with a 13-1 league mark after knocking off Concordia Texas 94-81 Tuesday night in Austin. The Cru has won eight straight games and is 5-0 on the road trip. Junior forward
Kitrick Bell sparked UMHB's win over the Tornados Tuesday night by scori9ng 24 points and tying the ASC single-game record with 24 rebounds. UMHB has already clinched a berth in the ASC Championship Tournament and the Cru can stretch its lead over second-place HSU to three games with a win Thursday night. Hardin-Simmons brings a 13-6 overall record and 10-3 ASC mark into Thursday's game and the Cowboys have won four straight conference games.
The Cru women are 5-14 overall and 4-10 in ASC play after topping Concordia 88-84 in a double overtime thriller Tuesday night.
Taylor Tucker had 30 points and 17 rebounds and hit two clutch free throws to ice UMHB's victory over the Tornados. The UMHB women have won three of their last four games to move into a virtual tie with Texas Lutheran University for the fourth and final tournament berth from the West Division. Hardin-Simmons is 11-8 overall and 8-4 in the ASC going into Thursday night's doubleheader and the Cowgirls will bring a five-game winning streak into the contest.
