MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team tied East Texas Baptist University 2-2 Thursday evening in Marshall. The tie moves the Cru to 3-6-2 on the season and 1-2-2 in American Southwest Conference play. The Tigers went to 2-3-2 overall and 1-1-2 in conference action.
ETBU grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the 12
th minute with a goal from Zachary Barton.
Jonathan Hernandez tied it up at 1-1 off an assist from
Isaiah Minick in the 14
th minute before ETBU responded, holding a 2-1 lead into halftime. The Tigers held that lead until Minick responded for UMHB in the 84
th minute, evening the game at 2-2. The game endured two overtime periods, but neither team was able to find the back of the net, resulting in a tie.
Hernandez led the Cru with eight shots while
Scott Poole and
McKenna Cook each added five. Minick and
Ben Hammonds both recorded assists in the match. The Cru outshot the Tigers 33-24, putting 12 shots on goal.
Blake Lander played the entire game in the goal for UMHB, allowing two goals and recording five saves. UMHB took five corner kicks in the match and three overtime shots.
The Cru will return to action Thursday, Oct. 17
th in a 7:30 p.m. match at the University of Texas at Dallas.
