Clarksville, Arkansas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team grabbed an early lead but could not hold on in a 2-1 loss at the University of the Ozarks Saturday in Arkansas. UMHB falls to 3-8-2 overall and 1-4-2 in American Southwest Conference play with the loss. The Eagles move to 7-5-3 overall and 2-3-2 in the ASC with the victory.
The Cru drew first blood when
Jordan Freeman scored off an assist from
McKenna Cook 33:53 into the match. It would stay that way into halftime. Gage Merritt tied the match for Ozarks just 4:44 into the second half off an assist from Eloy Salgado. The Eagles would score what proved to be the game-winner when Josh Duncan converted a Shaun Keane assist into a goal in the 69
th minute.
Ozarks out shot UMHB 18-10 in the match and had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
Blake Lander posted six saves in goal for the Cru. Austin Benner recorded five saves for Ozarks in the victory.
UMHB will now return home for the final two home matches of the season next weekend. The Cru will face U.T.-Tyler on Friday before welcoming LeTourneau University to the Cru Soccer Complex on Saturday. The men's matches will start at 7:00 PM each day.
