Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team routed LeTourneau University 11-0 Saturday evening in Belton. The Cru advanced to 12-3 on the season and 6-3 in American Southwest Conference action, while LeTourneau fell to 1-17 overall and 0-9 in conference play. The Cru's 12 wins ties the school record for wins in a season and ninth shutout beats a four-year-old record for shutouts (eight) in a season.
Allison Porter opened scoring up for the Cru with an assist from
Kathryn Parker.
Ashley Teague gave the Cru a 2-0 advantage before Jessie Simmons responded for a 3-0 UMHB advantage going into halftime. Simmonds, Teague and Porter all added goals in the second half, along with
Maizey Cardy,
Courtney Godwin,
Irelie Riggle and Parker.
Porter, Riggle, Simmonds and Teague all had two-goal performances while Godwin and Parker each added one. Parker recorded four assists, followed by
Briana Hester's two.
Gabby Gonzales and Riggle each added one. Parker, the Schlotzsky's Lotz Better Player of the Game, led the Cru with seven shots while Hester, Porter and Simmonds each added four.
Abbigail Minnix recorded the win in the net for UMHB, recording two saves.
UMHB also honored four seniors from the 2013 team,
Alison Bullock,
Maizey Cardy,
Eliza Faillace and
Courtney Ferguson. The Cru returns to action Thursday afternoon with a 5 p.m. match at Concordia University. UMHB will also compete in the American Southwest Conference tournament beginning Nov. 7th. The site of postseason play has yet to be determined.
