Volleyball earns two ASC victories

MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's volleyball team swept the first day of play in Marshall, earning a 3-0 sweep of Texas-Tyler and a 3-1 victory against Mississippi College. The wins improve the Cru to 18-2 overall and 7-0 in American Southwest Conference action.

The Cru made quick work of Texas-Tyler in the first match of the day, earning a 25-19, 25-15, 25-19 win over the Patriots. Lauren Powell and Kendall Pye led the Cru with eight kills while Bianca Patterson added seven. Shelby Prather assisted 19 points with Pye helping on 12. Kendra Feldmann led the Cru with 13 digs. The Cru recorded a nine team blocks led by Cheyenne Dowdey's two solo blocks and five block assists. UMHB served five aces in the match and hit .277 in the three-set victory.

In the second match of the day, UMHB grabbed a 25-17, 17-25, 25-13, 25-11 win over Mississippi College. Patterson led the Cru with 11 kills while Powell added 10. Pye recorded a match-high 29 assists with Prather adding 17. Feldmann again led the Cru with 27 digs. UMHB recorded 15 team blocks, served seven aces and hit 51 kills in the match.

UMHB will return to action tomorrow with conference matches against LeTourneau University and East Texas Baptist University. The Cru will open with a 12 p.m. match against LeTourneau.
