MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team split matches in the final day of competition in Marshall, earning a 3-0 sweep of LeTourneau University and dropping a 3-2 decision to East Texas Baptist University. The Cru improves to 19-3 on the season and 8-1 in American Southwest Conference action.
UMHB opened the day with a 25-12, 25-20, 25-14 win over LeTourneau.
Lauren Powell,
Cheyenne Dowdey,
Bianca Patterson and
Abby Voskuil all led the Cru with seven kills.
Kendall Pye had a match-high 20 assists with
Shelby Prather adding 15. Defensively, Powell led the Cru with 11 digs while
Kendra Feldmann added 10. UMHB recorded six team blocks, led by
Cheyenne Dowdey's 3.5. The Cru served five aces and hit .269 in the match.
The Cru opened competition against East Texas Baptist with 25-19, 25-11 wins before dropping the next two sets 16-25, 24-26. The Tigers were able to grab the match with a 15-10 fifth-set victory. Dowdey and Voskuil led the Cru with 10 kills while Powell, Pye and Patterson each added nine. Prather led UMHB with 25 assists with Pye adding 23. Defensively, Feldmann recorded a match-high 25 digs. Dowdey again led the Cru in blocks, putting down three solo blocks and 10 block assists. UMHB hit 57 kills and served four aces in the match.
The Cru will return to action Saturday, Sept. 12th with a pair of matches at Concordia University. UMHB will face the tornadoes at 11 a.m. followed by a 1 p.m. match against Sul Ross State.
