AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team dropped a 96-93 decision to Concordia Saturday afternoon in Austin. The loss drops the Cru to 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tornados improve to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
UMHB broke away with an 8-0 run four minutes into the game to grab a lead, leading by as many as 12 points in the first half and taking an 11-point lead into halftime. The Cru held that lead for 12 minutes of the second half before the Tornados responded with an offensive surge, tying the game at 76-76. The Tornados did not let up, using a 20-17 run to secure the 96-93 win over the Cru.
Jerard Graham led the Cru with 26 points while
Antonie Chaney added 21,
James Allen added 16 and
Kitrick Bell put up 15. Graham was also the leading rebounded for the Cru, bringing down eight boards en route to a team-total 31.
Layton Zinsmeister recorded six assists and
James Allen added two steals. The Cru shot 55 percent in the game and 75 percent from the free throw line.
Josh Sanchez led the Tornados with 27 points while Dwayne Patterson added 25 and Andre Potts recorded 24. Potts led the Tornados with 11 rebounds en route to a team-total 30. Sanchez led all teams with ten assists while the Tornados added six team steals. Concordia shot 58.9 percent in the game and 51.9 percent from beyond the arc.
The Cru will return to action Thursday, Dec. 19
th with a 7:30 p.m. match at Louisiana College and compete in a series of four road games. UMHB returns home Tuesday, January 7
th with a 7:30 p.m. match against the Tornados.
