Women's soccer opens season with 2-0 victory

Box Score Seguin, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team jumped to a successful start with a 2-0 win over former American Southwest Conference foe Texas Lutheran University Friday in Seguin. UMHB opens the 2013 season at 1-0 while the Bulldogs sit at 0-1.

Freshmen Kathryn Parker and Allison Porter teamed up for the Cru's game winning goal in the 59th minute. Porter assisted Parker's goal into the left side of the net. Ashley Teague gave UMHB security in the 67th minute with a goal by Ashley Teague and assist from Maizey Cardy.

Porter led the Cru with four shots; Miranda Aleman added three while five other athletes each recorded two. Courtney Craig recorded three saves in her half as goalkeeper and Abbigail Minnix added one. UMHB outshot Texas Lutheran 21-9 in the game.

The Cru will return to action Friday, Sept. 6th with an exhibition game against the Baylor Women's Club Team at 7 p.m. in Belton. Exhibition games are not officially recognized by the NCAA. UMHB will travel to Southwestern on Tuesday, Sept. 10 for a 7 p.m. game then return to host Southwestern Assemblies of God University Saturday, Sept. 14th at 7 p.m.
