Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team opened play at the Trinity National Invitational with a 3-2 win over Whitworth College and a 4-1 win over Chapman University.
The Cru opened the day with a come-from-behind win over Whitworth College. UMHB dominated the first set 25-13, then fell 23-25, 22-25 in the next two. The Cru rallied for a 25-19 fourth-set win and earned the victory after a 15-8 fifth-set victory.
Bianca Patterson led the Cru with 12 kills while
Cheyenne Dowdey,
Lauren Powell and
Kendall Pye each added nine.
Shelby Prather led the Cru with 37 assists while Pye added eleven. Defensively,
Kendra Feldmann recorded a team-high 27 digs with Dowdey contributing six blocks. UMHB totaled 54 kills and 12 team blocks.
UMHB earned another come-from-behind win over Chapman University 17-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-18. Powell and
Katrina Kastmo both hit 11 kills while
Sarah Toler put down eight. Prather assisted 21 kills with Pye adding 20. Feldmann again led the Cru with 18 digs while Powell added 16 and Pye recorded 11. UMHB recorded 11 team blocks, led by Dowdey's six. UMHB totaled 50 kills for a .204 attack percentage.
UMHB will continue play in San Antonio tomorrow with a 12:15 match against DeSales University and a 2:30 match against Berry College. The Cru will return home Thursday, Sept. 19
th in a 7 p.m. match against Our Lady of the Lake University.
