Women’s Basketball beats Texas Lutheran 91-89 in overtime


Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team beat Texas Lutheran University 91-89 in overtime Saturday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 2-0 on the season while the Bulldogs moved to 1-2.

UMHB led by as many as eight points in the first half before the Bulldogs rallied to a 32 tie at the half. The Cru held a lead early in the second half, having a 14-point advantage before TLU again tied the game at 73 at the end of regulation. UMHB used a 5-0 run followed by a 4-0 run to gain a lead in overtime, earning the 91-89 win.


Alyssa Dean led the Cru with 20 points while Jonelle Smith had 19. UMHB shot 37 percent in the game and 30.8 percent from beyond the arc. Smith led the Cru with three three-pointers. Taylor Tucker was the leading rebounder for the Cru, bringing down 15 with 12 points for a double-double. UMHB out-rebounded the Bulldogs 59-53 in the match. The Cru also went 73.3 percent from the free-throw line, led by Tucker with eight.

The Bulldogs shot 36.6 percent in the match and 79.4 percent from the free-throw line. Taylor Dydalewicz led the Bulldogs with 36 points, doing 11-23 from the field and 13-16 from the free-throw line. Karisa Cantu led the Bulldogs with 10 rebounds and nine assists.

UMHB returns to action on Thursday, November 25th in a 6 p.m. match against McMurry University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
