ASC Volleyball: No. 3 U.T.-Dallas sweeps No. 2 East Texas Baptist in Second Round

BELTON, Texas – No. 3 seed University of Texas at Dallas swept No. 2 East Texas Baptist University 3-0 Thursday evening in Belton. The Comets won consecutive 25-20, 25-20, 25-21 to set wins to earn their second win of the day. UTD improved to 21-9 on the season while the Tigers fell to 15-11.

U.T.-Dallas hit 41 kills as a team, led by Taylour Toso with 11. Meredith Crawford added 10 kills in the Comets' .223 hitting performance. Kayla Jordan recorded a match-high 37 assists. On the Comets' defense, Crawford had a team-high 16 digs while Bethany Werner added 15. UTD totaled 59 digs and eight team blocks in the match.

 

East Texas Baptist hit 39 kills as a team, led by Mallory Sanders' 11. Adaeze Elonu added nine in the Tigers' .118 hitting performance. Kayla Taylor had 20 assists followed by Nicole Buzzard with 14. Defensively, Mallory Sanders had a match-high 17 digs while Elonu and Kolby Sharp each recorded four blocks. ETBU totaled 59 digs and eight team blocks.

 

No. 3 U.T.-Dallas will advance to face the winner of No. 1 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor or No. 4 seed U.T.-Tyler on Friday, Nov. 7th at 5 p.m. No. 2 East Texas Baptist will move on to face No. 5 Concordia Texas in the loser's bracket on Friday, Nov. 7th at 2:30 p.m.
